4K HDR Immersive Logo
In an effort to give clarity to both broadcasters and consumers, the EBU has published a set of key distribution parameters (EBU Tech 3372) for Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) video and audio. The combination of 4K resolutions (4K), High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) and Next Generation Audio (NGA) codecs are a compelling combination of technologies that together promise an ‘Immersive’ consumer experience.
As a result, Eurofins Digital Testing has introduced a new logo scheme, 4K HDR Immersive Logo, which requires support for 4K, HDR, WCG and NGA simultaneously, across all inputs so that both Broadcast, Broadband and HDMI delivered content can be displayed.
The new 4K HDR Immersive Logo is supported by its Test Suite which is useful to verify compliance with the EBU guidelines, even for those not wishing to adopt the logo.
The logo scheme and its test suite certifies that all qualifying equipment will successfully receive the extended contrast range and colours essential for HDR and WCG, as well as ensuring that the full UHD resolutions are supported is met (which offers up to four times the clarity of existing HD services).
HDR brings a whole new dimension to content with vivid, true to life colours, darker blacks and brighter whites and the combined result of these three factors results in a significant leap forward in terms of television viewing and NGA (Next Generation Audio) can deliver enhanced features such as immersive sound, multiple language selection and flex-time audio
The new 4K HDR Immersive Logo technical requirements are an evolution from the preceding 4K HDR Ultra HD Logo. Since its launch in 2016 the 4K HDR Ultra HD logo certified by Eurofins has been adopted by a number of manufacturers.
